March CE Primary School

This is a good school, which has some outstanding features. Pupils receive excellent levels of care and this is a major reason why their personal development, including behaviour, is exceptional. Pupils do well academically and excel in English, art and the humanities. The impressive curriculum gives them rich opportunities to develop their creative, practical and sporting skills from the earliest age. (Ofsted March 2008)

FAQs

When are PE days?

Different classes have PE on different days.  The best approach is for your child to have their PE kit in all week and then take it home on Friday to be washed over the weekend.

Do you need parent helpers for school trips?

We frequently ask parents to help with school trips.  Teachers will make contact with parents on an individual basis.

How often do you have Parents Evening?

We have two Parents Evenings over the course of the year and an end of year report.  Due to limited space it is best if children do not attend on Parents Evening in order to allow for an undisturbed discussion.

Parents are also welcome to make an appointment at any time to see their child’s class teacher.  Please contact the office in the first instance.

Do you have a second hand uniform shop?

Yes we do.  Keep an eye on school newsletters for details of when it will be open.

How long do pupils have to eat their lunch?

The lunch sittings are between 20 – 25 minutes long, part of which is in silence to encourage eating rather than socialising!  Any uneaten food is returned home in the lunchboxes so parents can keep an eye on the amount that is being consumed.

Do all the children play together?

Yes, at breaktimes all the children play on our field and playground.

What are the arrangements for swimming lessons?

Children begin swimming lessons at the Westgate Centre in Chichester from Year 3.  The lessons take place on a Thursday and two classes go together.  There is a small charge for these lessons of £3 per week (as of September 2009)

What are the arrangements if my child has health problems?  To whom do we give inhalers or medication?

Inhalers are kept centrally and should be handed in to the office staff.  Medication should be prescribed such that it can be taken outside school hours.  If your child has complex health needs these can be discussed with the School Nurse – please contact the school office for further details.

We are not able to give any unprescribed medication to children during school time.
